To be jolly…in Zurich?
It snowed last week here and I was giddy like all the snow-starved Californians until the -13 C (10 F) hit me…
The above image is Zurich’s Grossmunster, a beautiful church that I went to last night, on Christmas eve, to see how the Swiss celebrate Jesus’ birthday:
Before I got there I stopped at Lindenhof and I was surprised by this lovely bird (or a winged rat as some people call it) who was not afraid of me and kept drinking from the fountain in spite of me and my big camera…

L’oiseau est un pigeon. Il n’a pas peur parce que les pigeons sont des créatures effrontées. Il suffit d’aller place Saint-Marc à Venise pour s’en convaincre. Un de ces horribles oiseaux, que Hitchcock n’a pas pensé à utiliser, s’est posé à côté de ma tasse de café qui m’avait coûté suffisamment cher pour ne pas avoir à supporter cette agression ailée. Les pigeons sont sales et je n’ai jamais compris le plaisir que peut avoir un touriste à se faire photographier avec un de ces volatiles sur la tête. Par ailleurs, les pigeons sont une calamité pour les monuments parce que leurs fientes sont très acides et ils se reproduisent dramatiquement vite. Leur seul intérêt est de tenir compagnie aux vielles dames qui leur donnent à manger. Bref, au lieu d’un appareil photographique, il eût mieux valu un pistolet désintégrateur.

What a delightful surprise to see images of favorite places of my home town. In the seventies we celebrated an alternative Christmas at the Grossmuenster Helferei with huge amounts of Chai and brown rice. I am so familiar with the cute little windows and shutters decorated in red for Christmas. Your photos are lovely, happy New Year to you, Michele.
